According to the transformer capacity per ton of furnace capacity, electric arc steelmaking furnaces can be classified into RP graphite electrice furnaces (about 300kV/A per ton of furnace capacity), HP graphite electrice furnaces (about 400kV/A per ton of furnace capacity), and UHP graphite electrice furnaces (500-1200kV/ A per ton of furnace capacity). According to the classification of electric power levels in electric furnace steelmaking, and based on the differences in raw materials used in the production of electrodes and the physical and chemical indicators of the finished electrodes, graphite electrodes are accordingly divided into three types: RP graphite electrode , HP graphite electrode , and UHP graphite electrode . RP graphite electrode are produced from ordinary grade petroleum coke. They have a low graphitization temperature, high resistivity, large linear expansion coefficient, and poor thermal shock resistance, thus allowing for a relatively low current density. high quality HP graphite electrodes are produced from high quality petroleum coke (or low-grade needle coke). Sometimes, the electrode body needs to undergo impregnation treatment. Their physical and mechanical properties are slightly higher than those of regular power graphite electrodes, such as lower resistivity and the ability to allow a larger current density. high quality UHP graphite electrodes must be produced using high-grade needle coke, and their graphitization heat treatment should be carried out in an inner series graphitization furnace, with a graphitization temperature as high as 2800 to 3000° C. Therefore, they have a lower resistivity, allow for a greater current density, have a smaller coefficient of linear expansion, and possess excellent thermal shock resistance.
