First of all, let take you to understand the uses and applications of graphite electrodes:

(1) Used in electric arc steelmaking furnaces

Graphite electrodes are mainly used in electric furnace steelmaking. Electric furnace steelmaking involves introducing current into the furnace through graphite electrodes. The powerful current generates an electric arc discharge through the gas at the lower end of the electrodes, and the heat generated by the electric arc is used for smelting. According to the capacity of the electric furnace, graphite electrodes of different diameters are used. To ensure the continuous use of the electrodes, they are connected by electrode threaded joints. Graphite electrodes used in steelmaking account for approximately 70 to 80% of the total usage of graphite electrodes.

(2) It is used in electric furnaces for submerged arc heating

Graphite electrode electric furnaces are mainly used for the production of ferroalloys, pure silicon, yellow phosphorus, glacial copper and calcium carbide, etc. Their characteristic is that the lower part of the conductive electrode is buried in the charge. Therefore, in addition to the heat generated by the electric arc between the electric plate and the charge, the resistance of the charge also generates heat when the current passes through it. About 150 kilograms of graphite electrodes are consumed for each ton of silicon, and approximately 40 kilograms of graphite electrodes are needed for each ton of yellow phosphorus.

(3) For resistance furnaces

The graphitization furnaces used in the production of graphite products, the melting furnaces for melting glass, and the electric furnaces for the production of silicon carbide are all resistance furnaces. The materials inside the furnaces act as both heating resistors and the objects being heated. Usually, the graphite electrodes used for conducting electricity are inserted into the furnace head wall at the end of the furnace bed, so the conductive electrodes are not continuously consumed.

In addition, a large number of stone avoidance electrode blanks are also used to be processed into various special-shaped products such as crucibles, graphite boats and dishes, hot pressing molds and vacuum electric furnace heating elements. For instance, in the quartz glass industry, 10 tons of graphite electrode blanks are needed for each production of lt electrofusion tubes, and 100 kilograms of electrode blanks are consumed for each production of 1 ton of quartz bricks.

Low thermal resistance: The thermal resistance is 40% lower than that of aluminum and 20% lower than that of copper. Light weight: It is 25% lighter than aluminium and 75% lighter than copper. High thermal conductivity: Graphite heat sinks can be smoothly adhered to any flat or curved surface and can be cut in any form according to customer requirements.
