304 316 316L 309 317 Plastic Coated Tubing
Material
Plastic coated tubing is composed of stainless steel inner tubing and an outer plastic layer (commonly PVC, PE, or PP), combining the strength and corrosion resistance of stainless steel with the added protection and insulation of a plastic coating. The inner stainless steel tube is typically made of 304, 316, 316L, 309, or 317 grades—each known for excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical performance. The plastic layer protects the tubing during transportation, installation, and operation in corrosive, humid, or chemically active environments.

Key Features
-
Dual Protection: Stainless steel offers chemical and thermal resistance, while the plastic coating adds impact and abrasion resistance.
-
Corrosion Resistance: Ideal for corrosive and humid environments where chemical contact is frequent.
-
Flexible Installation: Coil form allows for fewer joints and faster installation, especially in long pipeline runs.
-
Color-Coding Available: Coatings can be customized for visual identification and safety labeling.
-
Safe Handling: The plastic coating reduces the risk of surface injuries or sharp edges during installation.
-
Environmentally Adaptable: Used in indoor, outdoor, buried, or chemically exposed applications.

Steel Grade
-
304: Excellent general-purpose stainless steel with good formability and corrosion resistance.
-
316: Superior resistance to pitting and chloride corrosion, ideal for marine and chemical processing.
-
316L: Low-carbon version of 316 for improved weldability and reduced risk of sensitization.
-
309: High chromium and nickel content for better high-temperature oxidation resistance.
-
317: Enhanced molybdenum content for improved resistance to chemical attack and corrosion.
Application
Plastic coated pipe is widely used in industries that demand both hygienic properties and corrosion protection. Common applications include:
-
Chemical and Petrochemical Plants: Acid and solvent lines, instrument air tubing
-
Water Treatment: Corrosive media transfer, demineralized water systems
-
Food & Beverage: Clean process piping with external protection
-
HVAC and Refrigeration: Coil tubing for low-pressure transport
-
Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology: Sanitary fluid transfer in protected environments
-
Underground & Concealed Piping: Extra coating guards against soil or wall corrosion
Possible Alternative Grades
-
TP321 – For high-temperature stability in welded environments
-
TP310S – For superior oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures
-
S31803 (Duplex 2205) – For high strength and stress corrosion cracking resistance
-
TP304H – For high-temperature and high-pressure service
-
XM-19 (Nitronic 50) – High strength with excellent corrosion resistance
