Processing methods for ground ball screws

I. Material selection for ball screws

In practical applications, linear motion ball screws are used in various scenarios. Generally, to improve the service life of ball screw assemblies, hardened ball screws are adopted. Such ball screws are mainly processed by grinding, and their accuracy is guaranteed according to the standards of thread grinding machines.

II. Heat treatment of ball screw materials

During the heat treatment of linear ball screws, attention should be paid to avoiding bending deformation, and straightening processes should be avoided as much as possible. If necessary, hot straightening treatment can be used. Therefore, although a ball screw straightened at room temperature may seem straight in a short time, it will bend again the next day or after grinding.

III. Preparation before processing

The process datum of the ball screw kit is the center holes at both ends. The center holes usually adopt type B center holes, which can prevent the end face from being damaged and thus affecting the accuracy of the center holes. Meanwhile, the hardness of the center holes should reach 60-65 HRC. The accuracy of the center holes is crucial to ensuring the accuracy of the CNC ball screw. Before rough grinding and fine grinding processes, that is, after quenching and aging, a center hole adjustment process should be arranged.
