Vespel Polyimide is a product developed by the Vespel Polyimide is a general term for all-aromatic polyimide resin powder and its moulded parts developed by DuPont in the U.S.A. It belongs to the high-performance engineering plastics product series, and is mainly used in the aerospace industry, semiconductor process equipment, OA equipment, industrial machinery and automotive parts and other fields.
 
The products include SP1, SP21, SP211, SP22, SP3 and other specifications, with optimised properties through filler materials such as graphite, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or molybdenum disulphide. The basic SP1 offers high mechanical strength and electrical properties, the SP21 series is filled with graphite to improve wear resistance, the SP211 incorporates PTFE to reduce the coefficient of friction, the SP22 uses a high proportion of graphite to reduce thermal expansion, and the SP3 is designed for use in vacuum/inert gas environments. Core features include continuous heat resistance at 288°C, 10 times the PV value of ordinary plastics, creep resistance at 260°C, and metal-grade flame resistance and chemical stability for stable long-term operation without lubrication.
 
Vespel's high performance resins are the best in terms of heat resistance and abrasion resistance among the high performance resins that Vespel has marketed and mass-produced, and they can be used in non-lubricated conditions (high PV) at a height of 10 times or more without affecting the other materials, so they do not cause any harm.

Classification and Properties 
 
DuPont Vespel is the most typical representative of the polyimide (PI) plastic family.
 
VESPEL-SP1 (brown): The basic specification offers the highest mechanical strength and electrical properties.
 
VESPEL-SP21 (black): A 15% graphite-filled specification that provides abrasion properties and heat resistance.
 
VESPEL-SP211 (black): 15% graphite and 10% PTFE filled to give the lowest coefficient of static friction. Suitable for use in medium temperature environments.
 
VESPEL-SP22 (black): 40% graphite filled for lowest coefficient of expansion and highest creep resistance.
 
VESPEL-SP3 (black): 15% molybdenum disulphide filled specification for friction sliding requirements in vacuum or inert gas.
 
 
Product Characteristics 
 
1. Heat Resistance: Vespel is heat resistant up to 288°C for continuous use and up to 480°C for short periods of time.
 
2. Abrasion resistance: Vespel's lubrication-free limit PV value is more than 10 times that of general engineering plastics, and it is highly resistant to both impact abrasion and shaking abrasion.
 
3. Creep: Creep at 260°C and 186kg/cm2 is only 0.6% for 1000 hours.
 
4. Deformation of load: 1/70 of PTFE and 1/10 of nylon under 50°C and 140kg/cm2. 5.
 
5. Chemical resistance: Resistant to grease, oil, and solvent. Like metal, it is not burned.
