30% Glass-Fibre Reinforced Polycarbonate is a composite material produced by incorporating 30% glass fibre into polycarbonate (PC), exhibiting the following characteristics:
High strength and rigidity: The incorporation of glass fibres significantly enhances the strength and rigidity of PC. Compared to pure PC, 30% glass fibre reinforced PC exhibits substantially increased tensile strength, flexural strength, and modulus. It can withstand greater external forces and loads without deformation, making it suitable for components requiring high structural strength.
Excellent dimensional stability: Glass fibres help reduce PC's shrinkage rate during moulding, minimising warping and deformation in finished products. This ensures superior dimensional accuracy and stable shapes. This property is crucial for manufacturing high-precision components such as connectors in electronic devices and parts within automotive engine compartments.
Enhanced heat resistance: The heat deflection temperature of 30% glass fibre reinforced PC is substantially higher than that of pure PC. Typically, the heat deflection temperature of pure PC ranges from 130°C to 140°C. With 30% glass fibre reinforcement, this temperature rises to approximately 180°C to 220°C. This material maintains favourable mechanical properties in elevated thermal environments, making it suitable for components operating under high temperatures.

Improved wear and friction resistance: The high hardness of glass fibres enhances the surface hardness and wear resistance of the PC matrix while reducing the coefficient of friction. Consequently, 30% glass fibre reinforced PC is suitable for components subject to frequent friction or contact, such as gears, bearings, and sliders, where it minimises wear and extends service life.
Excellent electrical insulation properties: 30% glass fibre reinforced PC retains the inherent electrical insulation properties of PC while further enhancing electrical characteristics—such as dielectric strength and volume resistivity—due to the insulating nature of glass fibres. This makes it widely applicable in the electronics sector for manufacturing various insulating components, including switch housings, sockets, and circuit boards.
Good processability: Although the flow properties of 30 glass fibre reinforced PC decrease with the addition of glass fibres, it retains good processability. It can be formed into various shapes through common processing methods such as injection moulding, extrusion, and compression moulding, achieving high production efficiency to meet mass production demands. However, during processing, it is necessary to appropriately adjust process parameters according to the material's characteristics, such as increasing processing temperature or injection pressure.
Good chemical resistance: 30% glass fibre reinforced polycarbonate exhibits good tolerance to most acids, alkalis, salts, and other chemicals, maintaining stable performance even in complex chemical environments. It should be noted, however, that it may be sensitive to certain organic solvents. In practical applications, contact with strong solvents should be avoided to prevent issues such as material swelling or cracking.
