OYNO RULES

GENERAL DEFINITIONS

·        A bone lying flat is called a "lower" bone.

·        A bone standing on its edge is called an "upper" bone.

·        The central round cell is the center of the board.

·        To reverse a bone means to flip it over: an upper bone becomes lower, and a lower bone becomes upper.

·        Bones are adjacent if their cells share a common side. Bones in diagonal cells (sharing only a corner point) are not adjacent.

·        When bones are rolled, they land as upper or lower bones with equal probability.

·        A bone placed randomly (either side up) is called a "wild" bone.

SINGLE-PLAYER PUZZLE

1.      Shuffle the bones and randomly place 8 wild bones on the board, ensuring at least one bone is upper. Leave the center empty.

2.      Make a move:

o   Pick an upper bone from the board and place it in the center.

o   Reverse all bones adjacent to the cell you just took the bone from.

o   Move the bone from the center to any empty cell, placing it as an upper bone.

o   Reverse all bones adjacent to the cell you just moved the bone to.

3.      Continue making moves until all bones are upper.

4.      For increased difficulty, add another bone and start over. A solution always exists but becomes harder to find at higher levels.

TWO-PLAYER GAME

·        Start: The board is empty. Each player has their own set of 8 bones beside the board. The goal is to place all your bones on the board and make all your bones upper before your opponent does.

·        First Move: Pick up a red bone to start your turn.

·        Taking Your Turn: Choose one of these actions:

1.      Place a New Bone: If you hold a bone OR if all your bones on the board are already upper, take a bone (from your hand or your supply), place it upper-side up on any empty cell (except the center), then reverse all adjacent bones.

2.      Move an Existing Bone:

§  Remove one of your bones from the board and place it upper-side up in the center.

§  Reverse all bones adjacent to the cell you took it from.

§  Move this bone from the center to any other empty cell (except the center), placing it upper-side up.

§  Reverse all bones adjacent to the cell you placed it in.

3.      Flip a Lower Bone: Take one of your bones that is currently lower on the board, flip it to upper, and place it back in the same cell. (You do not use the center or reverse adjacent bones this way.)

·        Skipping: You cannot skip your turn.

·        Getting a New Bone: If all your bones already on the board are upper at the start of your turn, you must take a new bone from your supply for your action (as in option 1).

·        Winning: You win when all your bones are placed on the board and are upper.

WILD BONES (Variant)

·        On your turn, instead of placing a bone upper-side up, you may roll it and place it with the rolled side up (making it a wild bone). Then, follow the standard rules for placing or moving it.
