The rotational molding (rotomolding) process is a high-temperature, low-pressure manufacturing method used to create hollow, seamless plastic products. The process is defined by four key stages: loading, heating, cooling, and unloading . The type of mold used—typically made from aluminum or steel—plays a critical role in the efficiency and quality of the final product. Design & Planning: Engineers determine whether to cast (for complexity) or fabricate (for size/simplicity) the mold. Component Sourcing: Forged clamps and cast mold halves are received from external suppliers. Fabrication & Welding: Sheet metal is cut and welded to form the mold body or modify castings. Machining: The assembled mold is machined on a large CNC mill or lathe to ensure the parting line is perfectly flat and any mounting points are precise. Finishing: The entire mold surface is polished to achieve the desired finish on the final plastic part. Vents (tiny holes to allow air to escape) are drilled. Final Assembly: The finished mold halves, with their forged clamps and welded frames, are assembled and tested before being sent to the rotomolding production floor.
