Molten aluminum is poured into this cavity and allowed to solidify. Once cooled, the casting is finished and polished. Cast aluminum molds are ideal for complex shapes with fine details, though the initial pattern-making can add to the lead time and cost . Fabricated/Forged Steel or Aluminum Molds: For simpler part geometries or when faster tooling production is needed, molds can be fabricated. This involves welding and assembling sheets of steel or aluminum plates into the desired shape . Forged or fabricated molds are often less expensive and quicker to produce for less complex parts. In some cases, molds can even be CNC-machined directly from solid aluminum, a process that can reduce lead times from weeks to just days .
