The penetration rate of diamond wire in the photovoltaic industry has reached as high as 90%, very close to its upper limit. It can be said that the supply of diamond wire depends on the demand for photovoltaic silicon wafers. Statistics show that the total demand for diamond wire in China's photovoltaic industry will reach 390 million kilometers by 2025, with a four-year CAGR of 56%.Given the industry's rapid expansion, concerns about overcapacity are understandable. Will there be overcapacity next year? Will there be room for price reductions in diamond wire, or even a price war?According to relevant companies, while prices have fluctuated slightly, the demand for high-quality diamond wire remains relatively large, and the specifications of diamond wire are constantly being upgraded. Does the diameter of diamond wire gradually decrease at the end?

Currently, diamond wire primarily uses high-carbon copper-plated steel wire as its main conductor. The industry standard for diamond wire main conductor diameter has evolved from 120μm, through continuous research and development, to 80μm, then 40-47μm, and after 2022, the specification decreased to 35μm-40μm.

Some leading diamond wire manufacturers currently focus on 35μm and 36μm specifications. Others primarily focus on 38μm specifications, while 34μm diamond wire is still being actively promoted, and the finest specification, 33μm, is only available in small batches.

However, the largest proportion of specifications remains 35μm and 38μm, with these two specifications combined accounting for over 80%.
