Allyltrimethylammonium chloride is a white crystalline substance with strong hygroscopicity, soluble in water but insoluble in organic solvents such as methyl methacrylate and toluene. Its molecular structure contains double bonds and cationic quaternary ammonium groups, which can copolymerize with unsaturated monomers to form cationic or zwitterionic polymers. Allyltrimethylammonium chloride can be used as a zwitterionic water treatment scale inhibitor and dispersant, drilling fluid viscosity reducer, and water treatment flocculant. Allyltrimethylammonium chloride can be directly used as a clay stabilizer for oil recovery and water injection, and has a better effect when combined with ammonium chloride. It can also be used in drilling fluids, but the amount added cannot exceed 0.3%.
