A Mixed-Cut Halo Needs More Than One Matching Rule

FLGR-06 centers a 1.00 carat Fancy Vivid Green pear lab-grown diamond inside an 18K white gold halo. The photographed layout combines round brilliant accents around the lobe and pointed end with one vertical baguette beside each side of the pear. Additional small diamonds continue along the upper shoulders.

The three cut families do different jobs. The pear provides the colored focal area, the baguettes create straight side boundaries, and the round diamonds close the curved outline. For repeat production, a single note such as “0.56 ct side diamonds” is not enough. The baguette pair and the round halo need separate measurement and matching standards.

Center identity: certified green pear with an elongated 1.63 ratio

Side structure: two vertical baguettes controlling the middle width

Outline control: round halo stones protecting the lobe and pointed end

The front view shows how the baguettes define the sides while round diamonds complete the pear-shaped border.

Match the Baguettes Before Completing the Halo

The left and right baguettes sit close to the widest part of the center. Their length, width, depth and setting height determine whether the pear appears centered inside the halo. A small difference between the two straight stones is easier to notice than the same weight difference among the round accents.

For an approved production file, record each baguette separately. The visible length should align, the upper and lower ends should meet comparable round stones, and both tables should face the viewer at a similar angle. Ordering the pair only by combined carat weight can produce uneven side walls.

When developing another green center from the green lab diamond collection, select the actual pear first. The baguette seats and inner halo opening should then be redrawn around its millimeter dimensions rather than scaled from a generic one-carat model.

The angled view is used to compare baguette height, halo continuity and the transition into the diamond-set shoulders.

The IGI Report Defines the Center, Not the Halo

IGI report LG696543899 identifies the center as a 1.00 ct Pear Modified Brilliant laboratory-grown diamond measuring 8.37 x 5.13 x 3.26 mm. The resulting length-to-width ratio is approximately 1.63, giving the stone a narrow, elongated outline.

The center is graded Fancy Vivid Green and VS2, with Excellent polish, Very Good symmetry and no fluorescence. The report states HPHT growth and indications of post-growth treatment.

These facts apply to the inscribed center diamond. They do not grade the approximately 0.56 ct of surrounding diamonds, verify the finished 18K gold mounting or establish that another pear of the same carat weight will fit this halo.

The center report should remain linked to the same stone from CAD approval through setting and shipment.

Protect the Pear Point Without Making It Heavy

The pointed end is the most sensitive part of the outline. In this sample, round halo stones continue below the tip and create a protective visual border. The lower prong, tip clearance and final halo gap should be reviewed together so the pear does not appear pushed upward or crowded at the bottom.

Reducing the halo diameter can lower side-stone cost, but the change should not be made by deleting only the bottom rounds. That would alter the pear outline and leave the tip visually exposed. A smaller version needs a revised round-stone count, prong map and lower contour.

The same principle applies at the rounded lobe. The upper halo should follow the center without creating a flat crown. During the custom colored diamond ring process, approve the top arc, side baguette line and lower point as three connected zones.

Convert the 0.56ct Side Total into a Stone Schedule

The sample records approximately 0.56 ct of side diamonds and an approximate total diamond weight of 1.56 ct. For purchasing and replenishment, split that total into functional groups instead of treating it as one parcel.

Group

Baguette pair
Individual length, width, depth and orientation
Equal visible height and mirrored position

Stone diameter, start point, end point and shank width
Left and right spacing remains symmetrical

The wearing view confirms the elongated pear coverage and the width added by the baguette-and-round halo.

QC Must Compare Straight and Curved Reflections

Step-cut baguettes return light in broader flashes than the round halo. They should not be rejected simply because they appear quieter than the rounds. QC should instead compare the two baguettes with each other for transparency, orientation and visible darkness.

The front image should confirm a centered pear, mirrored baguettes and an even halo gap. The angled image should confirm comparable stone height and a smooth connection into both shoulders. Keep both views with the approved stone schedule for repeat orders.

Questions Specific to This Mixed-Cut Halo

Can the 0.56ct side diamonds be reordered by total weight?

No. The baguette pair, round halo and shoulder melee need separate specifications. The same combined weight can produce a different outline and unequal side walls.

Can another 1.00ct pear use the same halo?

Only after its length, width, depth, ratio and girdle are compared with the approved center. A different outline changes the inner halo gap and the position of both baguettes.

Why do the baguettes look less sparkling than the round halo?

Baguettes use step facets and produce broader linear reflections. The rounds use brilliant facets and return smaller, faster flashes. The contrast is part of the mixed-cut design when the two baguettes remain evenly matched.

Select the replenishment route before the quotation is finalized. In the FLGR-06 project request, choose Route M to retain the photographed baguette-and-round layout or Route R to review an all-round halo with simpler side-stone replenishment. Include the center report, ring-size range and target quantity so the stone schedule can be quoted against one defined layout.
