Keep the Halo Oval, Not Merely Symmetrical

FLGR-09 is built around a 1.09 carat Fancy Vivid Green oval lab-grown diamond in 18K white gold. A face-up diamond halo follows the center, while smaller diamonds continue along the upper shoulders. The sample reads as one elongated oval composition rather than a round halo placed around an oval stone.

For repeat production, that distinction matters. A halo can be left-right symmetrical and still make the center appear too round if the border becomes too wide at the top and bottom. The approved CAD should therefore control the outer oval proportion as carefully as the center-stone seat.

The 1.34 Center Ratio Is the Starting Geometry

IGI report LG696543879 records an Oval Modified Brilliant measuring 7.28 x 5.45 x 3.39 mm. Its length-to-width ratio is approximately 1.34, giving this particular center a fuller oval outline than a strongly elongated oval.

The center is graded 1.09 carats, Fancy Vivid Green and VVS2, with Very Good polish, Very Good symmetry and no fluorescence. The report records HPHT growth and indications of post-growth treatment.

Those grading details belong to the inscribed center diamond. They do not grade the approximately 0.77 ct of accent diamonds, verify the finished 18K white gold mounting or guarantee that another 1.09 ct oval will reproduce the same face-up proportion.

Approve Four Face-Up Measurements Before Sampling

This model is easier to reproduce when the buyer approves four dimensions rather than a generic “oval halo” reference:

1. Center length and width: use the actual selected oval, not nominal carat weight.
2. Inner halo opening: maintain a controlled visual gap around the center without crowding the prongs.
3. Finished outside length and width: preserve the approved oval silhouette and finger coverage.
4. Shoulder entry points: define where the diamond-set shank meets the halo so both sides enter at the same height.

These measurements can be reviewed in the custom ring CAD process. If the center changes, redraw the inner opening first and then confirm whether the outside halo dimensions should remain fixed or move with the new stone.

Do Not Let the Halo Round Off the Center

A fuller 1.34 oval needs deliberate spacing at its two ends. If the top and bottom halo border becomes disproportionately wide, the finished outline can read closer to a round cluster even though the center itself is oval. If the side border is too narrow, the center can appear squeezed between the shoulders.

For this sample, the useful repeat-order reference is the visual border around the center: compare the halo width at the top, bottom, left and right in the straight-on image. Keep those four zones balanced around the selected center rather than ordering the halo only by total accent weight.

The approximately 0.77 ct accent total includes the visible halo and diamond-set shoulder area. For purchasing, retain separate production records for halo stones and shoulder melee because a ring-size change can alter the shoulder requirement without changing the approved face-up halo.

Use the Outer Face Size as a Collection Control

Brands developing several green oval versions can hold the finished halo footprint constant while offering different center grades or modest center-size changes, provided each selected diamond can be seated without distorting the inner gap. This creates a more consistent visual scale across a private-label collection.

The alternative approach is center-led scaling: the halo grows or contracts with each oval. That keeps the border proportion similar but changes finger coverage and finished weight. Both are valid production strategies, but they should not be mixed within the same SKU without updating the CAD and quotation.

QC the Border Before Counting the Sparkle

The front QC image should show the oval center on axis, an even inner halo gap, comparable border width at both ends and matching shoulder entry points. Check that prongs do not visually cut into the center outline or create an unintended flat area in the halo.

The angled QC image should confirm that the halo sits at a consistent level around the center and that both shoulders rise into the setting evenly. Record the final outside face dimensions with the approved images so later orders can be compared against a measurable reference.

Questions to Settle Before the First CAD Is Released

Can the halo be made narrower without changing the 1.09ct center?

Yes, but the inner opening, accent-stone size and prong spacing should be redrawn together. Simply reducing the outside edge can leave uneven metal or crowd the center prongs.

Can another 1.09ct oval use the same halo?

Only after comparing its actual length, width, depth and outline. Equal carat weight does not mean equal millimeter dimensions, and a different ratio can change both the inner gap and the finished oval appearance.

How can a brand keep the same visual size across repeat orders?

Approve the finished outside halo length and width as part of the SKU record. New centers can then be screened against that footprint before the setting is redrawn or released to production.

Define the finished face, not only the center carat.
