Low-frequency transformers typically refer to electromagnetic devices operating in the range of 50/60Hz (power frequency) to 400Hz. Their core functions are voltage transformation, impedance matching, and electrical isolation. They are completely different from the small high-frequency transformers found in mobile phone chargers, which are usually larger and use silicon steel sheets as cores.

I. Core Features and Working Principle

Low-frequency transformers primarily rely on laminated silicon steel cores and copper wire windings, operating on the principle of electromagnetic induction. Due to the low frequency and slow change in magnetic flux, high-permeability silicon steel sheets must be used to achieve sufficient magnetic induction intensity (avoiding saturation) and reduce iron losses. Furthermore, the core cross-sectional area must be large, and the number of turns must be high. This is the fundamental reason why they appear "bulky."
