What It Is & How It Works Reversible hydrochromic ink is a water‑reactive functional ink that turns from opaque white to transparent upon contact with water, and reverts to white after the water evaporates. This cycle can be repeated indefinitely. The effect is based on a porous hydrophilic structure: when dry, the micro‑porous layer scatters light, appearing white. Once water penetrates the pores, the refractive index changes and light passes through, revealing the underlying colour or pattern. After drying, the original white appearance is restored.
