Line Post Studs HDG | ANSI C29.7 Insulator Studs | Poleline Hardware

Uncompromising Mechanical Anchorage for Line Post Insulators.
The Yokelink Line Post Stud is engineered to attach porcelain and composite Line Post Insulators securely to utility wooden poles, steel crossarms, or pole top brackets. Designed to manage intense high-voltage conductor side-loads, wind slapping, and dynamic tension, these studs serve as the critical mounting interface in modern distribution lines.

Fully Compliant with ANSI C29.7 Standards:
Manufactured in strict accordance with ANSI C29.7 and ANSI C135.1 performance specifications. The stud body is precision-machined from high-strength carbon steel. One end features standard 3/4" or 7/8" Unified National Coarse (UNC) threads to screw tightly into the base of the insulator, while the opposite shank end is engineered for rigid through-mounting.

Short Shank vs. Long Shank & Heavy HDG Protection:
Available in Short Shank configurations (for mounting directly on steel crossarms or brackets) and Long Shank configurations (engineered to penetrate thick wooden crossarms, supplied complete with a heavy square washer, hex nut, and lock nut). The complete assembly is fully Hot Dip Galvanized to ASTM A153 standards for decades of rust-free service in aggressive outdoor environments.

Key Technical Features of Line Post Studs:

Industry Standard: Fully manufactured and tested to comply with ANSI C29.7 and ANSI C135.1 specifications.

High Shear & Tensile Capacity: Engineered from solid high-yield carbon steel to resist heavy conductor lateral leverage.

Versatile Shank Options: Offered in Short Shank (steel mounts) and Long Shank (wood crossarm mounts).

Hardware Assembly: Long shank models supplied with heavy square washer, hex nut, and lock washer/nut.

Corrosion Shield: Heavy Hot Dip Galvanized (HDG) coating per ASTM A153.

Production Process of Line Post Studs:

The production process of line post studs starts with raw material preparation, where qualified carbon steel or alloy steel bar stock is inspected and cut into required blanks, followed by cold heading or hot forging to form the stud body, head and preliminary profiles with burr removal; afterwards, thread rolling or turning is performed to create standard external threads, then quenching and tempering heat treatment is carried out to obtain target mechanical strength and release internal stress, components go through hot‑dip galvanizing or other customized anti‑corrosion surface treatments, subsequent full inspections covering dimensions, thread fit, mechanical performance and coating thickness are implemented to screen out non-conforming products, and finally qualified line post studs are marked and packed for storage and shipment.

Yokelink Quality Control and Testing Equipments:

We don't just reference standards; we also verify them in practice: each batch of products undergoes destructive tensile testing in our internal laboratory to ensure load performance exceeds the minimum requirements of IEEE C135.2 or CSA C83 specification; we use optical comparators to ensure the geometric accuracy of chamfered tips and rolled threads, enabling convenient on-site installation; at the same time, we conduct comprehensive testing on Rockwell hardness, coating thickness, and other parameters, and each shipment is accompanied by the original manufacturer's material specifications (MTRs) and quality inspection reports, with all data traceable back to the raw material furnace number.

Application of Line Post Studs:

line post studs application
Line post studs are critical fastening hardware widely used in overhead power distribution systems.

1. Overhead line post mounting
They secure line post insulators to utility poles, cross‑arms or metal brackets, firmly fixing insulators for power‑line support.
2. Assembly of pole‑top fittings
Used for connecting various pole‑top hardware, including brackets, clamps and support components, to keep the whole assembly stable under wind, ice and vibration loads.
3. Distribution & transmission networks
Mainly applied in medium‑voltage overhead distribution lines; also suitable for part of low‑voltage transmission projects for outdoor pole‑mounted equipment fixation.
4. Outdoor harsh‑condition scenarios
Matched with anti‑corrosion surface treatment such as hot‑dip galvanizing. Deployed in coastal, humid and open‑air environments to resist rust and ensure long‑term mechanical connection reliability.
5. Accessory installation
Assist in installing auxiliary power accessories on poles, such as lightning protection fittings and grounding assemblies.

Yokelink Product Quality Inspection Report

We provide comprehensive inspection services for machine bolts, including SGS test bolts and formal Production Part Inspect Report (PPIR). The SGS tests verify the bolts’ compliance with international standards like ASTM A307 and IEEE C135.80, covering mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. The PPIR details all inspection items, ensuring each machine bolt meets dimensional, performance and quality requirements, providing reliable quality assurance for overhead line and industrial applications.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What is the main application of a Line Post Stud in utility distribution lines?

A: A Line Post Stud serves as the heavy-duty threaded steel anchor that locks a Line Post Insulator (porcelain or composite) onto a support structure. The top threaded stud screws directly into the metal base of the insulator, while the bottom shank passes through a wooden crossarm, steel bracket, or pole top plate, holding the insulator rigid against high-voltage line tension.

Q2: How do I choose between a Short Shank and a Long Shank Line Post Stud?

A: The choice strictly depends on the mounting structure:

Short Shank Studs (typically 1-3/4" to 2" shank length) are engineered for mounting on thin structural steel crossarms, steel brackets, or pole top adapters. They thread tightly into a tapped hole or nut behind the steel plate.

Long Shank Studs (typically 7" to 8" shank length) are designed to pass completely through thick wooden utility crossarms, secured at the bottom using a heavy square washer, hex nut, and lock washer.

Q3: What thread sizes are standard for ANSI Class Line Post Insulators?

A: According to ANSI C29.7, the vast majority of distribution line post insulators use either 3/4"-10 UNC or 7/8"-9 UNC female threads at their base. Standard distribution line posts (such as ANSI Class 57-1 through 57-3) take a 3/4" stud, whereas heavy-duty or higher-voltage line posts (ANSI Class 57-4 and 57-5) require a 7/8" stud to handle higher bending moments.

Q4: How does Yokelink prevent thread binding when installing Hot Dip Galvanized Line Post Studs?

A: Galvanizing adds a layer of zinc, which can cause binding if tolerances aren't strictly controlled. At Yokelink, the threads of our ASTM A153 Hot Dip Galvanized studs are specially chased or over-tapped with precise pitch clearances. This ensures the stud screws smoothly into the female brass or galvanized steel insert of the insulator without galling or jamming in the field.

Q5: Why is a heavy square washer required on Long Shank Line Post Stud assemblies?

A: High winds on conductors apply a massive leverage/bending moment to the line post insulator and its mounting stud. When installed on a wooden crossarm, a standard round washer would sink into or crush the wood fibers under stress. A heavy steel square washer spreads the clamping force and lateral leverage over a much larger surface area, preserving the structural integrity of the wood.
