5×5mm Wearable Buzzer Challenge: Ultra-Thin Piezo Solution & Acoustic Resonance Design

A wearable electronics customer faced an extreme space constraint: only 5mm × 5mm was available for the buzzer, while the required alert sound level could not be reduced. Jiangsu Huaneng Electronics developed an ultra-thin piezoelectric buzzer solution with a piezo element height down to 1.1mm. To further improve acoustic performance, we tuned the drive frequency close to the resonance frequency of the customer's product housing, allowing the enclosure to function as part of the acoustic amplification system. Testing inside the customer's complete assembly achieved an 85dB sound output, and the product passed mass-production validation after only one PCB revision. This case demonstrates how customized piezoelectric buzzer design, ultra-thin construction and acoustic resonance optimization can solve buzzer challenges in compact wearable and electronic devices.
