Product details

Innovative Polymers regularly work with NDT Level II and Level III project managers to innovate and develop new solutions that meet the evolving needs of their projects by guiding them step-by-step through the process of creating acoustic capable wheels, wedges and delay lines. From material selection to complex shapes and combined materials, we have a history of delivering solutions for out of the ordinary ultrasonic inspection applications.

Innovative Polymers trademark materials are: Aqualene™, ACE™ and Aqualink™ along with other mixtures and specialized polymers.

1.Phased Array Wheels
Used to inspect composites and other
smooth-surfaced materials as an alternative to immersion testing techniques.

2.Phased Array Wedges
Common applications are to noninvasively inspect for flaws in manufactured materials such as welds or in medical imaging.

3.Couplant Pads
Unlike dry couplants normally used as a part of ultrasonic probes, these polymers can be applied independently of the probe.

4.Delay Lines
Used for; precision thickness gaging, straight beam flaw detection and inspection of parts with limited contact areas.

5.TOFD Wedges
Non invasively size cracks in manufactured materials such as steel and to inspect HDPE butt fusion welds.

6.Longterm Probe Placement
Used for placing probes (especially under harsh conditions) that require longer time periods to collect scan data.

Aqualene is a new elastomer designed specifically for ultrasonic inspection applications. Unlike dry couplants normally used as an integral part of ultrasonic probes, this elastomer can be applied independently of the probe. Acoustic impedance of the new material is very nearly the same as water and its attenuation coefficient is lower than all other documented elastomers and many plastics. Applications for nondestructive testing include:

Flexible couplant pads
Low reverberation dry contact testing of thin wall material
Low velocity delay lines
Aqualene dry couplant avoids the drawbacks of wet coupling when used on porous or refractory surfaces. Its use eliminates absorption by the material and avoids messy residues. Furthermore Aqualene may serve as a thermic insulator.
Aqualene couplant products are available in many sizes and thicknesses, and custom designs are also available.
