The side seal of a metal can containing only dry product can be glued, i.e., the longitudinal seam is attached with nylon tape, which melts and solidifies after the cylinder is formed.
Tin solder cans are generally composed of 98% lead and 2% tin. The cylinder making machine that rolls the flat slab into a cylinder is used in pairs with the side seam sealing machine that performs the tin soldering. In the can making machine, the edges of the slab are cleaned and bent into a hook shape so that it can be easily fixed when forming the cylinder.

The cans are then passed through the side sealer, solvent and solder are added, the sealing area is preheated with a gas lance, and the solder is further heated through the longitudinal solder rollers so that the solder flows all over the seam, after which the excess solder, mainly in the form of drops, is removed with a rotating scraper. The fusion soldering method is a resistance soldering process using the self-consuming wire electrode principle. Earlier fusion welding systems used large laps to raise the temperature of the steel to the melting point and weld at a lower roller pressure.
