Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), a colourless, water-soluble synthetic resin employed principally in the treating of textiles and paper. Water-soluble PVOH manufacturing is complex and requires considerable investment and technical expertise to produce resins that demonstrate the desired characteristics. However, in the last five years, there have been a substantial increase in new patent applications for PVOH resins and films.
