New York plans to legalize electric scooters, what do you think?
The municipality still needs to get approval for electric scooters and Foldable Electric Bike companies and decide how to regulate them. For example, under the statewide law, drivers do not need to wear helmets, although cities may need to do so.
If the bill progresses as expected, electric motorcycles and electric bicycles may come to New York City, which is a huge potential market. But don't expect to see them in Manhattan anytime soon.
If electric scooters are legalized, Bird, Lime or Jump scooters will not be seen on the sidewalk in the future. The bill also explicitly prohibits the use of electric bicycles and electric scooters on the Hudson River Greenway.
It may take a while for local authorities to determine their rules and allow the process of e-scooters and bicycles, so it may be a while before you can legally jump on Brooklyn for a while.
