Spheroidizing agent, also known as rare earth magnesium ferrosilicon alloy, is an additive that can promote the crystallization of graphite into spherical shapes in ball milled cast iron. It is generally used in the field of cast iron casting. In the process of casting iron, the additive added to the molten iron to precipitate graphite into spherical shapes is called spheroidizing agent, and the spheroidizing agent containing rare earth elements is called rare earth spheroidizing agent.

The elements in the spheroidizing agent that affect the spheroidization effect
Almost all cast iron factories now produce ductile iron, and different spheroidizing agents should be selected for different production conditions. Spheroidizing elements refer to the elements that can promote the spheroidization of graphite, causing the formation or increase of graphite balls. What are the elements that affect spheroidization
1. Magnesium: Magnesium has a high vapor pressure in molten iron, causing it to boil. Its atomic weight and density are smaller than that of molten iron. At the processing temperature of molten iron, magnesium produces a high vapor pressure. Therefore, when magnesium is added to molten iron, vaporization occurs, causing the iron to churn. Secondly, magnesium has a strong affinity with sulfur and oxygen, and the resulting magnesium oxide and magnesium sulfide have a high melting point and a much lower density than iron, making them easy to separate from molten iron. Therefore, the oxygen and sulfur content of molten iron treated with magnesium is very low. Thirdly, there is a tendency for segregation in graphite during the solidification process of molten iron;
2. Rare earth elements: The residual amount of rare earth elements has a significant impact on graphite spheroidization. Ductile iron treated with light rare earth elements has poorer graphite roundness than ductile iron treated with magnesium, and fragmented graphite may appear. After heavy rare earth treatment, complete spherical graphite can be obtained;
3. Calcium: Calcium has a low solubility in molten iron. Compared with magnesium, calcium has a strong affinity for sulfur and oxygen, and can effectively desulfurize and deoxidize.
