There are two main types of heating tapes:
1. Self-Regulating Heating Tape: These tapes automatically adjust their heat output based on the temperature of the pipe they're attached to. They become less active as the pipe gets warmer and more active as the pipe gets colder. This type is generally safer and easier to install since you don't have to worry about overheating.
2. Constant Wattage Heating Tape: These tapes produce a constant amount of heat along their entire length, regardless of the temperature around them. They require a thermostat to prevent overheating and are generally used where more precise temperature control is needed.

When choosing a heating tape, consider factors such as the material it will be applied to (pipes, tanks, etc.), the ambient temperature, the required temperature range, and whether you need a self-regulating or constant wattage type.
