SKYSIL SL-400 SILICA MATTING AGENT FOR WOOD COATING

SKYSIL® SL-400 is a matting agent designed based on high-purity silica (SiO₂ ≥99%, dry basis), specifically designed to meet the stringent

requirements of high-end wood coatings for surface texture and system stability. Its core chemical properties profoundly affect the performance

of coatings:

Chemical inertness and system universality: It is neutral (pH 6.0-8.0) and extremely chemically stable. This inertness ensures that SL-400 is

highly compatible in all types of wood coating systems (solvent-based PU/NC, water-based paints), does not interfere with the resin curing

reaction or cause storage stability problems (such as gelling, thickening), and provides a wide range of space for formulation design.

Controllable surface activity and rheological regulation: The specific pore structure (1.8-2.0 ml/g) combined with the optimized DOA oil absorption

value (250-300 ml/100g) reveals its surface chemical properties. This property enables it to precisely control the rheology of the coating, while

providing efficient light scattering (matte effect), significantly improving the coating's anti-settling and construction tolerance (such as anti-sagging),

especially suitable for occasions requiring high solid content or thick coating.

Fine dispersion and paint film integrity: The narrower particle size distribution (3.0-3.5 μm, Malvern method) is due to its uniform chemical composition.

This not only ensures ultra-fine dispersion in the paint film and avoids granularity, but its extremely low drying loss (≤5.0%) and burning loss (≤9.0%)

also mean that there are very few trace volatiles, which greatly reduces the risk of paint film surface defects (such as prickly heat, dark bubbles)

caused by moisture or organic residues, and improves the density and clarity of the paint film.

Excellent whiteness and color fidelity: The high whiteness (≥95) comes from the pure chemical nature, ensuring that it will not introduce yellowing or

background color interference in transparent or light-colored paints, and perfectly present the natural texture and design color of wood.
