Overview:
Shan Zhu Yu, also known as Cornelian Cherry Fruit, is the dried, ripe fruit of Cornus officinalis. It has a sour and slightly warm nature and primarily enters the liver and kidney meridians. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Shan Zhu Yu is valued for its ability to tonify the liver and kidneys, stabilize the essence, and prevent leakage. It is a key herb for conditions related to deficiency and loss — such as excessive sweating, incontinence, or reproductive issues.

Botanical Description:
Cornus officinalis is a deciduous shrub or small tree native to China, Japan, and Korea. The fruit is oblong, red, and fleshy with a large seed. After harvesting, it is dried for medicinal use, sometimes processed (steamed or wine-treated) to enhance its tonifying effects.

Traditional Uses in TCM:

1. Tonifies Liver and Kidneys:
   Used for symptoms like dizziness, tinnitus, sore lower back, and weak knees — especially when related to liver and kidney deficiency.

2. Stabilizes Essence:
   Helps prevent leakage of essence, addressing issues like nocturnal emission, frequent urination, incontinence, or excessive sweating.

3. Stops Excessive Sweating and Collapses of Qi:
   Strengthens the body's core energy to stop spontaneous or night sweating and supports recovery in cases of collapse due to weakness or loss of fluids.

Pharmacological Properties:
Shan Zhu Yu contains iridoid glycosides (like loganin), organic acids, and antioxidants. Modern research suggests it has anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, kidney-protective, and neuroprotective properties.

Preparation and Dosage:

• Forms: Commonly used in decoctions, powders, or pills; sometimes combined with other tonic herbs.

• Typical Dosage: 6–12 grams of dried fruit per day.

Safety Precautions:
