We excel in insulation material processing, offering core capabilities like insulation material CNC processing that delivers high-precision cuts, and insulation material CNC machining that refines raw insulation substrates into functional components—including custom insulation material CNC machined parts designed for diverse industrial applications. Notably, we also specialize in processing the specialized POM board through our insulation material CNC machining and processing workflows, ensuring this high-performance material meets the same strict accuracy and insulation standards as all our machined parts.
Tips for Cutting POM Sheets (Polyoxymethylene Sheets)
POM sheets are hard and don’t rub much. But when you cut them, watch out—they can warp from heat and make dust. Here are the key things to do:
Set the Right Cutting Settings
1.Speed: Change it based on how you’re cutting (milling, drilling) so the material doesn’t melt or warp from too much heat.
Milling: Use 15-30m/min speed, feed 0.1-0.2mm/r.
Drilling: Use 10-20m/min speed, feed 0.05-0.1mm/r. And use drills that let chips out easily (like spiral ones).
Tools: Pick HSS (high-speed steel) or carbide tools. Keep them sharp and smooth—POM melts easily and sticks to dull tools.
Cooling: Keep it cool while cutting. Use compressed air or neutral coolants (like water-soluble ones). Don’t use oil-based coolants—they might react with POM.
2.Stay Safe
Dust: Cutting POM makes fine dust. Breathing it in long-term can irritate your lungs. Wear a dust mask, keep the area well-ventilated, and use an industrial vacuum to suck up chips as you go.
Fire: POM dust can catch fire. Don’t let it pile up, and keep it away from open flames or hot parts of the machine (to avoid dust explosions).
3.Keep Dimensions Right & Avoid Warping
Fixing: Use special clamps to hold the sheet evenly. Don’t press too hard in one spot (it’ll warp), and don’t clamp too loose (it might bounce back after cutting).
Cutting Order: First cut big parts or the main shape, then do small details (like holes or grooves). This stops the material from warping because of stress.
After Cutting: If you need to store it, lay it flat in a dry, ventilated place. Don’t leave it in direct sun or damp areas—it’ll change shape.
4.Other Small Things
Don’t cut the same spot for too long—POM warps when it’s over 110-120℃, and too much heat can crack its surface.
Collect POM chips separately. Don’t mix them with other plastic chips—POM needs to be recycled alone to stay clean.
