High Density Polyethylene HDPE Tube
Definition and Basic Properties
HDPE is a thermoplastic resin formed by the polymerization of ethylene under high or low pressure. It exhibits excellent chemical stability and corrosion resistance, resisting attack by a wide range of chemicals, including acids, alkalis, and saline solutions. This allows it to maintain stable performance in environments exposed to a wide range of chemical media.
Its density typically ranges from 0.941 to 0.965 g/cm³, placing it in the high-density range. Its molecular chains are tightly packed, and its crystallinity is high, typically between 70% and 90%. This gives the material high rigidity and hardness.
Physical Properties
Mechanical Properties: It exhibits good toughness, with elongation at break typically reaching 300% to 700%, allowing it to withstand a certain degree of stretching and bending without breaking. It also possesses a certain degree of rigidity, maintaining its shape and resisting deformation. Its tensile strength is generally between 20 and 35 MPa, meeting the mechanical requirements of most common applications.
Thermal Properties: HDPE has a glass transition temperature of approximately -120°C and a brittle temperature of approximately -100°C, meaning it maintains a certain degree of flexibility even at extremely low temperatures and is not susceptible to brittle cracking. Its long-term operating temperature range is generally -40°C to 60°C, and it can withstand short-term temperatures of around 80°C. However, for the thick-walled pipes you describe, performance in high-temperature environments needs to be evaluated based on the specific application scenario, as heat dissipation is relatively slow.
Electrical Properties: It is an excellent electrical insulating material with a volume resistivity as high as 10¹⁵-10¹⁸ Ω·cm and a dielectric strength of approximately 18-25kV/mm. It can be used in specialized applications requiring electrical insulation.
Chemical Properties
It has excellent chemical stability. With the exception of a few strong oxidizing acids (such as concentrated nitric acid and sulfuric acid), which may corrode it under high temperature and pressure, it exhibits good resistance to most chemicals. At room temperature, it resists corrosion from various organic solvents, acids, bases, and salt solutions, making it widely used in the chemical and environmental protection fields.
Processing Performance
HDPE has excellent thermoplastic properties and is easily formed using various processing methods, such as extrusion, injection molding, and blow molding. Extrusion is commonly used for pipe production, enabling the production of pipes in a variety of specifications and shapes. During processing, it has a wide range of adaptability to parameters such as temperature and pressure, and the processing technology is relatively mature, making it suitable for large-scale production.
Applications
HDPE white pipe with an outer diameter of 80mm and an inner diameter of 30mm has applications in a variety of fields due to the properties of HDPE material and its specialized specifications:
Industrial Fields
Chemical Fluid Transport: Due to its excellent chemical stability, it can be used to transport various chemical media, such as acids, bases, and salt solutions. The thick-walled design allows it to withstand certain pressures, ensuring safe and reliable transport. For example, it is used to transport corrosive chemical liquids in the production workshops of some small chemical companies.
Industrial Wastewater Treatment: It can be used for the discharge and transportation of industrial wastewater. Its corrosion resistance allows it to withstand the attack of various chemicals in the wastewater, preventing corrosion and damage to pipes. Furthermore, HDPE itself is insoluble in water, preventing secondary contamination of the wastewater.
Agricultural Sector
Irrigation Systems: In large-scale agricultural irrigation projects requiring the transport of water under pressure, thick-walled HDPE pipes ensure stable pressure during the transportation process. Furthermore, its corrosion resistance allows it to be used outdoors for extended periods, resisting the attack of chemicals and microorganisms in the soil, ensuring a long service life.
Agricultural Chemical Transportation: It is used to transport pesticides, fertilizer solutions, and other chemicals without chemically reacting with them, ensuring their effectiveness and safety.
Special Engineering Sector
Protective Engineering: In projects requiring protection, such as military bunkers and defensive walls, HDPE pipes can serve as support structures or protective barriers. Its high strength and excellent toughness provide support and protection, while its white appearance also provides a degree of concealment.
Marine Engineering (with certain limitations): In marine environments, although HDPE inherently exhibits excellent seawater corrosion resistance, it is susceptible to long-term exposure to factors such as seawater erosion and UV radiation. Therefore, thick-walled pipes with an outer diameter of 80mm and an inner diameter of 30mm, if specially treated (such as with UV inhibitors), can be used in auxiliary piping systems for some marine facilities, such as water supply and drainage pipes for offshore aquaculture. However, long-term performance and reliability must be considered when using them in marine environments.
