Product Overview

Frozen seafood and meat put a corrugated carton through the hardest test there is: it goes from a packing line at cold temperature into a freezer, then into a container where humidity swings, and it has to stay rigid enough to stack when it comes out. Standard board absorbs moisture and loses most of its stacking strength in those conditions.

We build these cartons with moisture-resistant board and, where the route calls for it, a wax or poly coating on the outside. They are used for frozen fish, shrimp, shellfish, meat cuts and poultry, in the large sizes typical of wholesale food distribution.

What Kills a Carton in Frozen Distribution

It is not the cold itself, it is the condensation. A carton leaving a -18 C freezer into a humid loading bay collects water on the surface, and untreated linerboard soaks it up. Boxes that were perfectly stiff on the pallet go soft within an hour, and the bottom layer collapses.

The fix is on the material side: a moisture-resistant liner, a coating where the exposure is worst, and a flute choice that keeps its shape when wet. We will ask about your cold chain before quoting, because the right answer differs between a short domestic route and a six-week ocean shipment.

Inside and Outside the Carton

Product usually goes into a bag before it goes into the carton. For produce and bagged items we supply Produce & Roll Bags, and for the wrap layer before cartoning, our Food Wrap Film range covers both hand and machine use. On the outbound pallet, LLDPE Stretch Film holds the load and Packing / Carton Sealing Tape needs to be a grade that still sticks at low temperature - a standard tape will lift off a frozen box.
