Indications:
Norepinephrine bitartrate is indicated as an adjunctive treatment for certain hypotensive states, including those occurring during or following:

• Resection of pheochromocytoma
• Sympathectomy
• Poliomyelitis
• Spinal anesthesia
• Myocardial infarction
• Sepsis
• Hypotension due to blood transfusion or drug reactions

It is also used as an adjunct in the management of cardiac arrest and severe hypotension. In cases of shock resulting from hypovolemia, this agent serves as a temporary supportive measure during emergency resuscitation to raise blood pressure and maintain cerebral and coronary perfusion until adequate fluid resuscitation takes effect. Additionally, it may be used to support blood pressure following successful resuscitation from cardiac arrest.

Pharmacological Action:
Norepinephrine bitartrate is a potent agonist of α₁ and α₂ adrenergic receptors, with only weak activity at β₁ receptors. Its primary mechanism of action involves activation of α₁-adrenergic receptors on vascular smooth muscle, leading to pronounced vasoconstriction and a consequent increase in arterial blood pressure.
