POM Sheet, short for Polyoxymethylene Sheet, is a thermoplastic crystalline polymer sheet made of polyoxymethylene resin (POM resin) through precision processes such as extrusion and molding. It is one of the most widely used engineering plastic sheets in the industrial field.
 
Its molecular structure is regular and has no side chains, making it a high-density, highly crystalline material. The core component, polyoxymethylene resin, is divided into two main categories: homopolymer POM (POM-H) and copolymer POM (POM-C). Each has its own strengths in performance. AHD POM Orange Sheets can be flexibly produced using either resin raw material according to customer needs, catering to the requirements of different application scenarios.
 
In essence, POM Sheet (Polyacetal Sheet) is a new type of material that combines the strength of metal with the toughness of plastic. Its mechanical properties are close to those of metal, but it has the advantages of plastic, such as lightweight, easy processing, and corrosion resistance. It breaks through the limitations of traditional metal materials that are "bulky, easy to rust, and difficult to process", and also makes up for the shortcomings of ordinary plastics that are "insufficient in strength and poor in wear resistance". Outstanding Mechanical Properties: Tensile strength reaches 60-70 MPa, elastic modulus is approximately 2800 MPa (far exceeding ordinary ABS), high hardness, creep resistance (no deformation under long-term stress), and excellent fatigue resistance (not easily damaged by repeated friction), earning it the reputation of "Iron Man of the plastics world."
 
Good Dimensional Stability: Low water absorption (weak water absorption), minimally affected by temperature and humidity, does not easily expand or shrink over long-term use, suitable for precision parts manufacturing.
 
Excellent Self-Lubrication: Dynamic friction coefficient is only 0.1-0.2 (lower than nylon and polyethylene), allowing stable operation in sliding contact parts without additional lubrication, reducing wear.
 
Chemical Corrosion Resistance: Resistant to solvents, oils, and weak acids and alkalis, but not resistant to strong acids and alkalis (such as concentrated sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide) and long-term ultraviolet radiation (will yellow and age).
 
Excellent machinability: It can be formed by turning, milling, drilling, hot pressing and other processes, making it suitable for manufacturing precision parts with complex shapes (such as gears and sliders).

Ⅱ. Advantages of POM Sheets in CNC Machining
 
POM (Polyoxymethylene), as a high-performance crystalline engineering plastic, is well-suited for CNC (Computer Numerical Control) precision machining due to the high degree of compatibility between its intrinsic material properties and the manufacturing process. Its core advantages can be summarized as "easy to machine, high precision, strong functionality, and low cost."
 
 
1. Excellent Machining Performance
 
Low Cutting Force and Tool-Friendly: With moderate hardness, it exhibits minimal plastic deformation during cutting, and the cutting force on the tool is only 1/3 to 1/2 that of steel, significantly reducing wear rate.
 
Burnt-Free and Easy Chip Removal: Good melt flowability produces continuous, ribbon-like chips that do not stick to the tool, resulting in smooth edges on machined parts without the need for additional deburring.
 
Wide Machining Temperature Window: With a heat distortion temperature of approximately 110-130℃ and a machining temperature range of 180-220℃, it is less prone to localized melting or deformation due to cutting heat, supporting high-speed cutting.
 
 
2. High Dimensional Accuracy and Shape Stability
 
Low Elastic Deformation: Elastic modulus 2.5-3.5 GPa (close to 1/3 of aluminum alloy), resulting in minimal deformation caused by cutting forces during CNC machining, allowing for controlled dimensional tolerances within a very small fluctuation range;
 
Strong Creep Resistance: Under long-term load at room temperature, dimensional change is <0.1%, far superior to nylon, making it suitable for machining high-precision structural parts;
 
Uniform Shrinkage: Molding shrinkage rate 1.8-3.0% (although higher than ABS, uniform crystallization allows for precise prediction of CNC correction amounts), avoiding defects such as warping and shrinkage cavities.
 
 
3. Excellent Mechanical and Functional Properties
 
High Strength and Rigidity: Tensile strength 60-80 MPa, flexural strength 90-120 MPa, capable of withstanding moderate loads (such as gear meshing, reciprocating motion of sliders);
 
High Wear Resistance and Self-Lubrication: Coefficient of friction as low as 0.1-0.3 (dry friction), wear rate is only 1/10 that of copper, requiring no additional lubrication for use in friction components (such as bearings, pulleys);
 
Chemical Corrosion Resistance: Resistant to oils and solvents (gasoline, alcohol, greases) except strong oxidizing acids (concentrated sulfuric acid, concentrated nitric acid), suitable for chemical equipment parts.
 
 
4. Cost and Efficiency Advantages
 
Low Material Costs: POM sheets and bars cost approximately 1/2 to 1/3 the price of aluminum alloys;
 
Lightweighting Benefits: Density 1.41-1.43 g/cm³ (only 1/7 the weight of steel), resulting in a 60%-80% reduction in part weight after processing, reducing transportation and assembly costs;
 
High Processing Efficiency: Short processing time per piece, suitable for small-batch, multi-variety production (CNC programming flexibility adapts to customized needs).
