Introduction
Ductile iron asks three things of a carburizer that grey iron does not: low sulphur so the magnesium survives, low nitrogen so the graphite stays spherical, and a graphitized structure so the carbon actually seeds nodules. Miss any one of the three and the heat fails in a way that is hard to trace back to the carbon.
What it is
A granular graphitized carburizer selected for ductile iron practice. The raw material is chosen for low sulphur and nitrogen, then graphitized and screened to a granular cut that dissolves quickly in an induction furnace bath.
Key specifications
- Fixed carbon: 98% min, graphitized
- Sulphur: low grade for ductile iron
- Nitrogen: controlled; figure per lot certificate
- Particle size: granular, cut matched to your furnace
- Packing: 25 kg bags, 1,000 kg bulk bags
Where it fits
- Ductile iron produced in induction furnaces
- Foundries seeing exploded or chunky graphite in heavy sections
- Shops fighting pinholes that appear after the carbon addition
- Plants that want a fast-dissolving carbon source ahead of the nodulising treatment
How to use it
Add at the furnace bottom before the nodulising treatment, never after. Skim before tapping. Keep the addition consistent heat to heat - variation in carbon is one of the commonest causes of variation in nodule count.
What it changes in your melt
Steadier residual magnesium, cleaner graphite shape and fewer pinholes. Because the material is graphitized rather than merely calcined, it also gives the melt usable nucleation sites, which supports nodule formation instead of only raising the carbon number.
Why source it from Wanyue
We supply ductile iron grades in granular, columnar and spherical form so a shop can use the right shape in each furnace without changing carbon source. Ports: Tianjin, Shanghai, Lianyungang.
FAQ
Q: Can we use this for grey iron?
A: Yes, but you are paying for low sulphur and low nitrogen that grey iron does not require.
Q: Does the particle size affect nodule count?
A: Only indirectly, through how completely the carbon dissolves. Incomplete dissolution leaves carbon that does not take part in nucleation.
