Hastelloy C22 alloy is an all-purpose nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy with better overall corrosion resistance than other available nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys including Hastelloy C276, C4 alloy, and 625 alloy.Hastelloy C22 alloy has excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. It has excellent resistance to oxidizing aqueous media, including wet chlorine, nitric acid, or a mixture of oxidizing acids containing chloride ions. Hastelloy C22 alloy is also ideally suited to resist both reducing and oxidizing environments encountered in the process. This versatility allows it to be used in challenging environments or in multi-purpose plants, and Hastelloy C22 alloy is exceptionally resistant to a wide range of chemical environments, including strongly oxidizing substances such as ferric chloride, copper chloride, chlorine, thermally contaminated solutions (organic and inorganic), formic, acetic and acetic anhydrides, seawater, and saline solutions. Hastelloy C22 alloy has the ability to resist the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the weld heat-affected zone, which makes it suitable for a wide range of chemical process applications even in the welded condition.
