Dipropylene glycol methyl ether is one of the Ether Compounds.Dipropylene glycol methyl ether is an organic substance with the molecular formula C7H16O3. colorless viscous liquid with a pleasant odor. It is miscible with water and many organic solvents. It is produced by hydration of 1,2-epoxypropane to produce dipropylene glycol monohydrate, and then with the action of methanol. Mainly used as a solvent for paints and dyes, also a component of brake fluid.
Properties: colorless transparent liquid, with weak ether odor. Low toxicity; low viscosity; low surface tension; moderate evaporation rate; good solvency and coupling ability.Solubility: miscible with water, appropriate HLB value. Soluble in grease, natural resins and rubber, cellulose, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl acetal, alkyd resins, phenolic resins, urea resins and other polymer chemicals.

Production method of dipropylene glycol methyl ether
It is obtained by hydrating 1,2-epoxypropane to produce dipropylene glycol monocontracted, and then reacting with methanol. Another method is to react 1,2-epoxypropane with methanol under the catalytic of BF3, adjust the ratio of methanol, hydrolyze to monocompound dipropylene glycol first, and then further react to generate this product.
