Common-mode choke for power electronics

Common mode means that when the voltage difference between two circuits is zero, the current and voltage in one circuit change simultaneously, and the current and voltage in the other circuit remain constant.

In general, there is no voltage difference between the two circuits. In practical applications, there is often one inductor in one circuit and two or more inductors in the other circuit. These coils are usually composed of copper wire and aluminum coils.

The degree of coupling between them depends on the coupling strength of the inductor and the voltage difference between the two circuits.

In a circuit with common mode inductance, a voltage signal is generated when a current signal flows through one coil, and a current signal is generated when it flows through another coil.

If there is no common mode inductance, the voltage in one circuit will change to the other circuit.

When there is a common mode between the two circuits, a common mode voltage is generated between the two circuits, and the voltage between the two circuits does not change at this time.

Common mode inductors are often used in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design. In EMC design, common mode inductors are used to prevent common mode noise from being coupled into the power supply or grounding system.
