(1)Antidote
Sodium Thiosulfate is an antidote for cyanide. With the participation of thiocyanase, it can combine with the free cyanide ions in the body or the cyanide ions bound to methemoglobin, and form non-toxic thiocyanate to be excreted by the urine, which can detoxify cyanide poisoning. In addition, it can also combine with various metal ions to form non-toxic sulphide to be excreted by urine, and it also has desensitising effect. It is clinically used in the treatment of cyanide and nitrile poisoning, arsenic, bismuth, iodine, mercury and lead poisoning, as well as in the treatment of pruritus, chronic dermatitis, chronic urticaria, drug rash, scabies and ringworm.
