Transparent Polycarbonate Rods PC Round Bar
Core Properties of PC Rod
Basic Physical Properties
Density: Approximately 1.20 g/cm³ (heavier than water, but significantly lighter than glass (2.5 g/cm³) and metal).
Appearance: Colorless and transparent to slightly bluish (optical-grade PC rods offer uniform light transmission with no edge scattering), with a smooth and hard surface (similar to glass).
Light Transmittance: ≥90% (close to 92% of glass), Haze ≤1% (high transparency, suitable for optical observation or decorative purposes).
Mechanical Properties
Impact Resistance: Unnotched Charpy Impact Strength ≥900 J/m (compared to approximately 50 J/m for ordinary glass and approximately 120 J/m for acrylic). This is a typical example of "plastic steel," capable of withstanding severe impact without breaking (even remaining intact after a drop from a height).
Tensile Strength: 60-70 MPa (medium to high, can withstand moderate tensile loads).
Flexural Strength: 90-110 MPa (stronger than acrylic, less prone to bending and deformation).
Hardness: Rockwell R 118-120 (surface wear resistance is better than acrylic, but lower than metal).
Thermal Properties
Glass Transition Temperature (Tg): Approximately 145-150°C (maintains rigidity above room temperature, slightly reduced toughness below this temperature).
Heat Deflection Temperature (HDT): 130-140°C (under 0.45 MPa load), short-term heat resistance up to 150°C (recommended ≤ 120°C for long-term use).
Melting Point: Approximately 220-230°C (processing temperature should be above this range, but avoid prolonged high temperatures that may cause decomposition).
Other Properties
Weather Resistance: Unmodified PC rods will gradually yellow and become brittle (surface oxidation degradation) upon prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. However, the addition of UV inhibitors can significantly improve weather resistance (extending outdoor service life by 5-10 years).
Electrical Insulation: Volume resistivity > 10¹⁵ Ω·cm (Excellent insulation, suitable for transparent protection of electrical equipment).
Self-Extinguishing: UL94 flame retardancy rating is HB (ordinary PC) or V-2/V-0 (flame-retardant modified PC). (Non-flame-retardant PCs will drip when burned but will self-extinguish upon removal from flame; flame-retardant PCs can meet higher fire protection requirements.)
Processing Flowability: Molten PC exhibits good flowability (easily extruded), while shrinkage is low (approximately 0.5-0.8%, with superior dimensional stability compared to acrylic).
