Lithium cobalt oxide batteries and lithium-ion batteries,how to choose them without confusion?

1. Both contain cobalt elements: Both cathode materials contain cobalt (Co). Cobalt's function is to stabilize the layered structure and improve conductivity. However, LCO is a "single cobalt-based" material, while the third-generation lithium-ion batteries are a "cobalt + other metals composite" material. The essence is different material systems;

2. There is overlap in performance: Both have high energy density and fast charging and discharging characteristics, and are suitable for scenarios that are sensitive to volume/weight (such as emergency lighting embedded lamps), but the third-generation lithium-ion batteries have better cycle life and high-temperature stability;

3. Neither are the first choice for fire safety critical scenarios: The safety of both is weaker than that of lithium iron phosphate batteries (LiFePO₄), so medical buildings, subways, data centers and other critical places still recommend lithium iron phosphate batteries as the preferred option.

Selection suggestions for emergency lighting fields:

1. If you want to pursue low cost and use for ordinary scenarios: Choose lithium cobalt oxide batteries (LCO), but make sure the product has overcharge, over-temperature and short-circuit protection functions and CCCF certification;

2. If you want longer lifespan and slightly higher safety: Choose third-generation lithium-ion batteries (such as NCM523, with a moderate nickel content, balancing safety and lifespan), suitable for ordinary office buildings and medium-sized shopping malls with high requirements for the stability of lamp battery life;

3. Critical scenarios (high safety requirements): Neither LCO nor third-generation lithium-ion batteries are recommended - prioritize lithium iron phosphate batteries (strong thermal stability, long cycle life, no combustion or explosion when punctured or short-circuited).
