Patella, commonly known as patella, is a sesamoid bone formed in the tendon of the quadriceps muscle. It is also the largest sesamoid bone in the whole body. It is flat miliary and located under the skin, easy to feel. It can move up, down, left and right to protect the knee joint. The back of the patella is smooth covered with cartilage and meets the surface of the femur patella. The front is rough and passes through the quadriceps tendon. Patella fracture can be divided into transverse fracture, comminuted fracture, longitudinal fracture, avulsion fracture and other different types. Transverse fractures are the most common, accounting for 50%-80% of all patellar fractures, which are mostly caused by indirect violent injuries. The knee joint is in a semi-flexion state, the femoral malleolus is against the rear of the patella, and the quadriceps muscle suddenly and violently contracts, resulting in patellar fracture with the femoral condyle as the fulcrum.
