The hopper

Used to store wooden pencils ready for thermal transfer. The hopper's width is adjustable to accommodate pencils of varying lengths. The feed rack consists of front and rear side panels, spaced the same length as the pencil itself. A pencil drop slot is located between the side panels, accommodating multiple pencils. The base is tilted downward toward the drop slot, allowing pencils to roll down easily. The notch at the bottom of the drop slot serves as the pencil outlet, where a push plate is located and driven by a drive mechanism.

The loading rod

The loading rod is a push rod mounted on a crank mechanism that pushes the pencil onto the fixture.

The thermal transfer mechanism

The thermal transfer mechanism consists of a heated, rotating silicone rubber roller, which is driven by a motor to raise and lower it. When a pencil enters the fixture, the silicone roller descends into contact with the pencil and rotates relative to it. Heat and pressure transfer the thermal transfer film to the pencil's surface.

The thermal transfer film transport and winding mechanism

Located on the frames on either side of the thermal transfer rubber roller. The patterned film is placed on the winding rollers, with the ends sequentially wound around the transfer rollers and tension roller set, passing between the thermal transfer silicone roller head and the pencil holder. The film's positioning and transport is controlled by a photoelectric sensor. This sensor, installed near the film's transport path, senses the black dots between adjacent pattern groups on the film. This sensor, in conjunction with the control system, precisely controls the film's transport length and thermal transfer position, ensuring accurate transfer of the pattern to the pencil.

The Difference Between Hot foil Stamping and Thermal Transfer printing

In the plastic packaging decoration industry, hot foil stamping and thermal transfer play important roles. While they are closely related, they also have subtle differences. Hot stamping relies on metal foil to achieve a single or holographic metallic effect, while thermal transfer uses transfer film to reproduce full-color patterns.

Specific differences are as follows:

1. Transfer Media:

Hot stamping uses various colored metal foils, typically consisting of a polyester film base with a metal coating. Thermal transfer uses thermal transfer film (including a release layer, color layer, and adhesive layer), which can be pre-printed with full-color patterns.

2. Effects:

Hot stamping can only achieve single metallic colors such as gold and silver, or special textures such as matte and laser, but cannot produce multi-color or gradient effects. Thermal transfer supports full color, gradients, and photo-quality patterns, with high color reproduction and the ability to reproduce complex graphics. 3. Process Focus:

Hot stamping: Using high temperature and high pressure, the metal layer of the foil is peeled off and transferred to the substrate, creating a metallic texture. Thermal transfer: Using high temperature, the color and adhesive layers of the transfer film are melted, resulting in a complete transfer to the substrate, with the emphasis on image transfer.

4. Positioning:

Hot stamping foil has no pattern restrictions, requiring only a rough length limit for transport and no positioning requirements. Thermal transfer film, on the other hand, has an independent pattern integrity and requires positioning during transport. This requires a relative position relative to the product, thus requiring sensor control.
