Smooth Surface Clear Transparent Polycarbonate PC Sheet
The core value of PC Sheet lies in its comprehensive characteristics of "high transparency, high impact resistance and weather resistance". It is suitable for fields that require lighting, safety protection or weather resistance, especially in construction, advertising, electronics and agriculture.
Product performance
Optical performance
High light transmittance: The light transmittance can reach 89%-92% (close to 92% of ordinary glass), low haze (<1%), small optical distortion, uniform light transmission, suitable for scenes with high light transmittance requirements.
Low refractive index: The refractive index is about 1.584, slightly higher than glass (1.52), which can produce a soft light scattering effect, suitable for occasions that require soft light or diffused light (such as lampshades, sun visors).
Anti-ultraviolet: UV coating can be added to the surface (such as UV-PC co-extrusion technology), blocking more than 99% of ultraviolet rays (wavelength 300-380nm), long-term outdoor use is not easy to yellow, and the service life is more than 10 years.
Mechanical properties
High impact resistance: The cantilever beam notch impact strength is ≥800J/m (normal temperature), which is more than 200 times that of ordinary glass and more than 10 times that of acrylic (PMMA). It can withstand high-intensity impact without breaking easily, and is suitable for safety protection applications.
Medium rigidity: tensile strength 50-70MPa, bending modulus 2000-2400MPa, although not as good as metal and some engineering plastics (such as POM, PA), but much higher than ordinary plastics (such as PP, PE), can withstand a certain load without deformation.
High toughness: elongation at break ≥ 80%, can undergo large deformation without breaking when subjected to external force, suitable for scenes that need to absorb impact energy (such as riot shields, safety helmets).
Thermal properties
High temperature resistance: heat deformation temperature (under 1.82MPa load) is about 120-140℃, glass transition temperature is about 145-150℃, long-term use temperature range -40℃ to 120℃ (short-term tolerance 130℃), suitable for use in high temperature environment.
Low thermal expansion coefficient: about 6.5×10⁻⁵/℃, dimensional stability is better than most plastics, deformation is small under temperature change environment, suitable for precision parts or large area coverage applications.
Chemical properties
Good chemical resistance: It has good resistance to water, seawater, oil, dilute acid (such as dilute hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid), dilute alkali, etc., and is suitable for general chemical environments.
Limited solvent resistance: It is sensitive to organic solvents such as aromatic hydrocarbons (such as benzene, toluene), chlorinated hydrocarbons (such as dichloromethane), ketones (such as acetone), etc. Long-term contact may cause stress cracking or swelling, and direct contact should be avoided.
Electrical properties
Excellent insulation: Volume resistivity ≥10¹⁵Ω·cm, dielectric strength 20-30kV/mm, dielectric constant 2.9-3.1 (1MHz), it is an excellent electrical insulation material, suitable for electronic and electrical components.
Processing performance
Easy to process: It can be processed into complex shapes by cutting, drilling, hot bending (thermoforming temperature 160-180℃), blistering, welding (such as ultrasonic welding), etc., with high processing efficiency and waste can be recycled.
Surface treatment: The surface can be printed, sprayed or coated (such as anti-UV coating, flame retardant layer), suitable for applications with high decorative or functional requirements.
Product Advantages
Excellent impact resistance and safety performance
The impact strength of PC sheet is much higher than that of ordinary glass and acrylic. It can withstand high-intensity impact without breaking easily. It can be used as a safety barrier in public places (such as schools, gymnasiums) or high-risk areas (such as bank counters, airport security areas), which can significantly reduce the risk of accidental injury. Its impact resistance is derived from the synergistic effect of rigid carbonate groups and flexible ether bonds in the molecular chain, forming a unique "hard-soft" segment structure, which not only ensures the high strength of the material, but also gives it excellent energy absorption capacity. For example, in the partition application of school classrooms, PC sheets can resist accidental collisions or ball impacts of students, avoiding secondary injuries caused by splashing debris; in the bulletproof window of the bank counter, PC sheets with a thickness of ≥10mm can block the impact of pistol bullets (in line with NIJ IIIA standards), providing reliable safety protection for high-risk environments.
High light transmittance and energy saving
The light transmittance of PC sheet is close to that of glass (89%-92%), but its weight is only 1/2 of glass and 1/3 of aluminum. Replacing traditional glass can significantly reduce the load demand of building structures, reduce the amount of materials used for supporting frames and installation costs (such as reducing the weight of roof lighting systems by more than 50%). At the same time, its high light transmittance uniformity (haze <1%) can ensure the transmission of light without distortion, avoid the common problem of uneven brightness and darkness of traditional lighting materials, and improve the comfort of indoor lighting. More importantly, after adding anti-ultraviolet coating to the surface of PC sheet through UV co-extrusion technology, it can block more than 99% of ultraviolet rays (wavelength 300-380nm), avoid fading and aging of interior decoration materials (such as curtains, carpets, furniture, etc.) caused by ultraviolet penetration, and extend the service life of indoor items. In addition, the low thermal expansion coefficient of PC sheets (6.5×10⁻⁵/℃) makes it deform less under temperature changes, which is suitable for large-area lighting ceilings or curtain wall applications, avoiding structural deformation or sealing failure caused by thermal expansion and contraction, and further improving the energy saving and safety of buildings.
Wide temperature range and weather resistance
The thermal deformation temperature of PC sheets reaches 120-140℃ (ordinary grade), and can withstand high temperatures of 130℃ in a short term (such as automotive lampshade applications). The long-term use temperature range is -40℃ to 120℃ (can withstand 150℃ in a short term), which is significantly better than the upper temperature limit of acrylic (PMMA) (80℃). This feature enables it to maintain rigidity and strength in high temperature environments (such as automotive engine compartments and industrial drying equipment), avoiding deformation or failure due to softening. At the same time, the weather resistance (anti-ultraviolet aging performance) of PC sheets far exceeds that of ordinary plastics: uncoated PC sheets may show obvious yellowing and brittleness after 5 years of outdoor exposure, while PC sheets treated with double-sided UV co-extrusion technology or surface coating can be used outdoors for more than 10 years without obvious signs of aging (tensile strength retention rate> 90%). For example, in the application of highway noise barriers, PC sheets need to be exposed to ultraviolet rays, wind and rain, and extreme temperature changes for a long time. Its excellent weather resistance can ensure the sound insulation effect and structural integrity, reduce the frequency of maintenance and replacement, and save long-term costs.
