How is Sorbitan Isostearate Prepared?
This ingredient is made by the condensation reaction of sorbitol and isostearic acid. The resulting molecule contains one sorbitol segment and one isostearic acid segment.
Visually, it appears as an amber viscous liquid. This dual affinity enables it to act as a Emulsifier for cosmetics, enhancing the spreadability of water-in-oil (W/O) emulsions and helping to disperse insoluble particles such as pigments and inorganic UV filters.
