PEEK, Polyether Ether Ketone, is a high-performance thermoplastic aromatic polymer with excellent high temperature resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, high mechanical strength, and excellent dimensional stability. Its main molecular chain contains ether bonds, ketone groups, and benzene ring structures, enabling it to maintain excellent mechanical properties at high temperatures (above 250°C).

Introduction​​

The maximum allowable operating temperature in air is very high, mechanical strength, excellent chemical resistance and hydrolysis resistance, excellent wear resistance and friction performance, extremely high creep strength, and excellent dimensional stability.

 

It is widely used in high-end fields such as aerospace, medical, automotive, electronics, and food processing industries, such as gas analyzer structural parts and heat exchanger scrapers on satellites; due to its superior friction performance, it has become an ideal material in the field of friction applications, such as sleeve bearings, sliding bearings, valve seats, seals, pump wear rings, etc.

Highest heat resistant plastic: PEEK Rod

PEEK is one of the best heat-resistant materials among high performance plastics. Even when used at 260 °C for 5000 hours, the strength is almost the same as in the initial state and excellent in thermal stability. PEEK has a long lifetime in the harshest environments. 

Long-term heat resistance: 260  °C 

Short-term heat resistance: 300 °C 

Glass transition point: 150 °C

Melting point: 341 °C

Thermal deformation temperature HDT-A : 152 °C

PEEK Rod has several of the best mechanical strength properties of any engineering plastic, including:

Tensile strength (over 90 MPa)

High modulus of elasticity

High hardness

Impact resistance

Creep resistance

 

 

PEEK Rod is also resistant to bending and stress, and can therefore be used in applications where stability is required. In addition to standard PEEK, modified PEEK is also available in high strength grades.

 

 

 

Outstanding chemical resistance

 

PEEK Rod has excellent resistance to a wide range of organic solvents, oils, weak acids and alkalis, and maintains its strength over a wide range of temperatures and concentrations. PEEK has proven to be a difficult polymer to decolorize, swell or crack.

PEEK bearing material with excellent heat resistance and durability

When lubrication-free sliding and non-contamination are required in high-temperature environments, pure PEEK without fiber modification is the most balanced material for high-temperature environments. Nevertheless, many applications require special PEEK bearing grades, such as TECAPEEK PVX black, which contains a variety of reinforcing additives (graphite, carbon fiber and PTFE) to meet various requirements:

 

Low coefficient of friction

Improved heat dissipation (reduced frictional heat)

Increased strength and wear resistance

 

Combined with the above criteria, this bearing grade material can be used in harsh environments from 100 to 300°C. PEEK can be used beyond the limits of normal materials (POM, PA / nylon, etc.). Due to their excellent sliding properties, they can be used in gears, bearings, slide bearings and many other applications. In order to avoid thermal overload of the bearings, it is important that the frictional heat generated is dissipated as quickly as possible from the sliding surfaces of the bearings. The better the thermal conductivity of the parts, the faster the heat dissipation and the less overheating. Filling with carbon fibers and graphite makes it an excellent bearing grade material with improved thermal conductivity.

Longer service life in harsh environments

Due to its stable chemical molecular structure, PEEK has the highest radiation resistance of any thermoplastic. Even when exposed to large amounts of gamma radiation, it will not crack due to embrittlement or degradation. Therefore, PEEK can be used for a long time and maintenance costs can be reduced. This makes PEEK ideal for plastics used in harsh environments. Examples include airplanes, power plants, and radiation-affected medical equipment.
