Excellent Overall Performance
High Impact Resistance: The toughening effect of the butadiene rubber phase makes ABS sheet one of the most impact-resistant general-purpose engineering plastics. Its notched impact strength at room temperature (23°C) is ≥20 kJ/m² (common ABS has a strength of 15-20 kJ/m²), and it maintains ≥15 kJ/m² at low temperatures (-40°C). (Common plastics like PS have an impact strength that drops sharply to <5 kJ/m² at -20°C.) This makes it suitable for outdoor equipment in cold regions (such as vehicle dashboards).
Good Chemical Resistance: The cyanide group of acrylonitrile imparts resistance to dilute acids (such as acetic acid and citric acid), dilute alkalis (such as sodium hydroxide solution, concentration ≤10%), and salt solutions (long-term contact results in no significant swelling or performance degradation). However, it is sensitive to strong organic solvents (such as acetone, carbon tetrachloride, and benzene), which may cause swelling or surface softening.
Excellent surface properties: The styrene component makes the surface of the ABS plastic sheet smooth and flat (roughness Ra ≤ 0.2 μm), easy to print, spray or electroplate (for example, it can be vacuum aluminum-plated after pre-treatment for high-end decorative panels), and the glossiness is ≥ 80 GU (ordinary PP board is 50-70 GU), meeting the high appearance requirements of exterior parts.
Application Areas
Automotive Manufacturing
Interior Parts: Standard ABS plastic sheets are used for instrument panel frames, door trim panels, and center consoles, offering both toughness (impact resistance and resistance to cracking) and formability (complex curved surfaces can be molded in one go).
Exterior Parts: Flame-retardant reinforced ABS sheets are used for rearview mirror housings and radiator grille trims. Their weather resistance (no yellowing after 5,000 hours of UV exposure) and surface gloss meet high-end aesthetic requirements.
Functional Parts: Antistatic ABS sheets are used for protective covers of on-board sensors to prevent static interference with signal transmission. Heat-resistant ABS sheets are used for wiring harness mounting brackets around the engine compartment (withstanding high temperatures of 80-100°C for extended periods).
Home Appliances and Consumer Electronics
Home Appliance Housings: Standard ABS sheets are used for washing machine control panels, refrigerator door handles, and air conditioner vents. They are easy to clean and cost less than ABS/PC alloys.
Electronic Equipment Housings: Flame-retardant ABS sheets are used in computer cases, printer cases, and charger panels. They meet the UL94 V-0 standard and protect internal components from spark damage.
Construction and Decoration
Building Formwork: Ordinary ABS sheets are used for interior decorative moldings (such as European-style carved ceilings) and elevator car panels. They are lightweight (only 1/3 the weight of aluminum alloy) and can be finished with wood grain or metallic finishes.
Advertising Displays: Transparent or colored ABS sheets are used in display racks (such as jewelry showcases) and light box panels (such as promotional light boxes in shopping malls). They have a light transmittance of ≥85% (similar to acrylic but lower in cost) and better scratch resistance than acrylic (pencil hardness ≥2H).
Bathroom Fixtures: Chemical-resistant ABS sheets are used for bathroom cabinet panels and shower enclosures, resistant to water stains and detergent corrosion (no discoloration after long-term contact).
Industrial and Machinery
Protective Covers and Housings: Reinforced ABS sheets are used for machine tool protective doors and motor housings, offering impact resistance and oil resistance (no swelling after long-term contact with lubricants).
Electrical Insulation: Standard ABS sheets are used for switch panels and cable connector boxes, with a volume resistivity of ≥10⁴ Ω·cm (meeting low-frequency insulation requirements).
