The hot stamping dies is also called the hot stamping template. It is a mold used to carry and transmit hot stamping patterns, text and other information in the hot stamping process:

Material and characteristics

Metal material: Hot stamping dies made of metals such as copper and zinc have good thermal conductivity and durability, and can withstand high temperatures and pressures.

Silicone material: Silicone hot stamping dies have good elasticity and flexibility, can fit closely with the surface of substrates of various shapes and materials, and are often used for hot stamping on curved or irregular surfaces.

Resin material: Resin hot stamping dies have low cost, simple production process, and can be quickly formed, which can meet some hot stamping needs with low precision requirements and small batches.

Production process

Engraving process: For hot stamping templates made of materials such as metal or resin, CNC engraving machines are often used for engraving.

Corrosion process: Generally used for the production of metal hot stamping templates. First, apply an anti-corrosion coating on the surface of the metal plate, and then protect the parts that do not need to be corroded through exposure, development and other processes, and then use chemical solutions to corrode the metal plate to form the required hot stamping pattern.

Casting process: The silicone plate adopts the casting process. Pour liquid silicone rubber and other materials into the pre-made mold, and after it cools and solidifies, you can get the hot stamping template of the desired shape.

Usage

Preparation: Select the appropriate hot stamping plate according to the hot stamping material and pattern requirements, and check whether the surface of the hot stamping plate is flat, clean, without scratches or damage.

Install the hot stamping plate: If it is a flat hot stamping plate such as zinc plate or copper plate, it can be fixed on the hot plate of the hot stamping machine with high-temperature glue. It is necessary to pay attention to align the hot stamping plate with the center of the hot plate to ensure uniform heating. For silicone hot stamping plates, they can be directly attached to the hot stamping plate of the hot stamping machine, and their elasticity can be used to achieve pressure compensation.

Adjustment parameters: According to factors such as the type of hot stamping plate, hot stamping material and the complexity of the pattern, adjust the temperature, pressure and hot stamping time of the hot stamping machine. Generally speaking, the temperature of the silicone hot stamping plate is controlled at around 120℃-200℃, and the temperature of the zinc plate and copper plate is between 180℃-250℃.

Hot foil stamping: Place the object to be hot stamped on the workbench of the hot stamping machine, align the hot stamping plate, start the hot stamping machine, and make the hot stamping plate fully contact with the surface of the object. After a certain period of pressurization and heating, the metal foil on the hot stamping paper will be transferred to the surface of the object.

When choosing a hot stamping die for your hot foil stamping machine, the most important considerations are matching the hot stamping material, pattern accuracy, and machine type:

1. Choose based on the properties of the substrate

The surface characteristics of different substrates vary significantly, directly determining the compatibility of the template:

Copper plates: The most versatile, with a moderate hardness (HRC 35-40), are suitable for most common materials such as paper, leather, plastic, and fabric. They are suitable for fine lines and have a long service life. They are suitable for flat products, standard cylindrical surfaces, rough surfaces, plush fabrics, and textured fabrics.

Zinc plates: The hardness is lower (HRC 20-25), and the price is 30%-50% lower than copper plates. They are suitable for soft materials such as paper and thin plastics. However, they have poor wear resistance and can easily deform fine patterns. Therefore, they are only recommended for small batches and simple designs. Silicone plate: A flexible material, typically cast onto an aluminum plate to improve deformation resistance. Suitable for curved and irregular surfaces (such as cups and cylindrical bottles), or fragile flat surfaces like glass, ceramics, and plastic sheets. However, it cannot produce fine lines and has a short lifespan. Repeated compression can cause the rubber to age and deform.

Steel plate: Extremely hard (HRC55 and above) and heat-resistant, it is commonly used for heat transfer on wood products and embossing thick blankets. However, it is expensive and has a long processing cycle, making it suitable only for specialized industrial applications.

Magnesium plate: Lightweight, fast thermal conductivity, high surface hardness, and easy demolding. It is particularly suitable for applications requiring high precision, fine lines, and complex graphics.

2. Select by "Design Precision"Silicone hot stamping plates are made by casting, while metal plates can be made by etching or engraving. Silicone plates are suitable for products with higher surface hardness and are suitable for plastic products with curved, cambered, or sloped surfaces. Metal hot stamping plates made by engraving offer high precision and a long lifespan. They are suitable for 3D reliefs, complex patterns, ultra-fine designs, gradient effects, high-end packaging, brand logos, and etching processes. They are also suitable for conventional lines and text patterns.

3. Select by "Hot Stamping Machine Type"Manual hot stamping machines use smaller, thinner hot stamping plates and can be installed with adhesive. Pneumatic and hydraulic hot stamping machines use larger, thicker hot stamping plates and can be fixed with screws.
