Sorbitan stearate is a nonionic surfactant that is white to slightly yellow granular with a slight odor. It has poor solubility in water and acetone and limited solubility in ethyl acetate. The product has a predicted boiling point of 579.0±45.0°C, a density of 1.056±0.06 g/cm³, a pKa value of 13.17±0.20, stable physical properties, and is suitable for a variety of personal care products.

As a major emulsifier for cosmetics, sorbitan stearate can provide excellent stabilization and thickening effects in oil-in-water emulsions. It helps to increase product consistency, reduce phase separation, and improve the skin feel of creams, lotions, makeup and hair care products. Its waxy properties and reliable performance make it particularly suitable for systems that require solid emulsifiers. It is often used in combination with ingredients such as PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil or ethylene glycol distearate to enhance the synergistic effect of the formulation.
