COMPSSITION:
Ciprofloxacin Injection is supplied as clear almost colorless to faint yellow solution of ciprofloxacin 2 mg/ml in bottle of 100ml.
Each 100ml contains:
Ciprofloxacin BP......200mg
Sodium Chloride BP...…900mg
Water for injection BP…q.s.
DESCRIPTION:
Ciprofloxacin is new fluoroquinolone antimicrobial agent with potent activity against a broad spectrum of gram positive and gram negative bacterial including Psaeruginossa. Enter obacteriaceae and staphylococcus Aureus.
ANTIMICROBIALACTIVITY:

Ciprofloxacin eliminates 99% of bacteria in just 19 minutes. The rapidbactericidal action of Ciprofloxacin is attributed to its umque mode of action. Ciprofloxacin like other fluoroquinolones, blocks bacterial DNA gyrase and disrupts the DNA functions leading to death of bacteria. In addition, Ciprofloxacin damage bacterial cell membrane leading to extrusion of cell contents. Ciprofloxacin is effective against both relicating strains and bacteria in stationary phase. It has significant post-antibiotic effect up to 6 hours and thus prevents regrowth of bacteria. Ciprofloxacin does not disturb normal intestinal or vaginal flora and has no significant effect against anaerobes. Bacterial resistance with Ciprofloxacin is extremely rare. There is no plasmidome diated resistance and it does not show any cross resistance with other antibiotics or antibacterial agents except fluoroquinolones. Ciprofloxacin has an antibacterial spectrum which is wider than the spectrum of ammoglycosides, third generation cephalosporinsand other fluoroqunolones. Ciprofloxacin is active against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens including strams resistant to penicillins, cephalosporins an/or aminoglycosides. Ciprofloxacin's spectrum includes the following organisms.
