It operates via a zero-speed butt-splice mechanism: as the running roll nears completion, the web momentarily stops, the trailing edge is aligned and cut cleanly, and then dual-sided adhesive tape is applied to join the old roll to the new one in a head‑to‑head fashion, ensuring a flat, tape-bonded seam. This method effectively avoids issues like crushed or overlapped paper that can compromise the quality of downstream resin-based printing.

This butt‑joint technique, unlike lap splices, doesn’t create thick splices that could jam printing units. Instead, it delivers a seamless transition that maintains precise web tension and minimal thickness variation—critical when maintaining registration and web stability through subsequent drying, embossing, or coating processes. The system includes an integrated festoon loop that buffers the web, so the press never experiences a break in feed, even during splicing events.
