Sapphire Rod lens is essentially a cylindrical optical lens made of a single crystal of sapphire(AL2O3),It's not just regular sapphire glass, instead, it takes advantage of the extreme physical properties of sapphire, combined with the imaging,straightening function of a rod lens, and is specifically designed to address the three major industrial challenges of high temperature,wear, and corrosion.usually serves as the front objective lens or protective window of a rigid endoscope, and used in conjunction with the Hopkins rod shaped lens system.
Commonly,rigid endoscopes have a series of high-resolution optical glass rod lenes. the endoscopes can be forward viewing 0degree or angle 10-120degree to allow visualization out of the axis of the telescope nd increase the FOV by rotating the instrument, the optical quality of lens generate images of rigid endoscopes still surpasses that of the fiber-optic or digital images produced by flexible scopes
