Laser focus lens is a critical optical component that shapes and directs laser beam for precise energy delivery in industrial, medical and creative applications.
CO2 laser focus lens is suitable for cutting and engraving and responsible for concentrating the 10.6um wavelength infrared light into a high-energy density light spot. The selection mainly depends on three core parmeters, material, focal length and aperture
co2 laser can not pass through oridnary glass, therefore, infrared materials must be choose Znse window or Znse Lens
Znse Meniscus lens or Znse plano convex lens has a transmittance of over 99% at 106.um wavelength and can also transmit visible light( which is convenient for red light positioning) making it suitable for most cutting/engraving scenarios.
GaAs  lens :High hardness, resistant to splashing, but opaque( not transparent to visible light), mostly used in harsh environment
 
1.Focal Length determines the size of the light and the depth of field
The focal length is the key factor in the selection process, as it determines the size of the light spot and the depth of field( the range of cutting depth
*Short focal length:(25-50mm): the light spot is small and the engery is concentrated, suitable for precise marking and thin plate cutting ,however, the depth of the field is short and extremely high accuracy in the flatness of the materil is required
*Middle focal length:(63-100mm): General purpose option, balancing both light spot quality and a certain depth of field. suitble for acrylic, wood board engraving and medium-thickness cutting
*Long focal length:(125-129mm): the light spot slightly larger, but the depth of field is long, which is suitable for thick plate cutting( such as 20mm+acrylic) ensuring consistent quality at the top and bottom of the cut
 
2. Size: match with power
the aperture size should be larger than diameter of the incident light beam to prevent damaging the frame
low power(<100w) commonly choose 18-20mm diameter
High power(>200w), requires Dia25mm or larger to disperse the heat load
 
Znse Plano convex lens VS Znse Meniscus Lens
 
According shape there have two types, one is Znse plano convex lens, another is Znse Meniscus lens, both are the most common types in CO2 laser systems, although their material is the same, but optical structures, focusing performance and application scenarios are vastly different.

Structural characteristics one side is flat, while the other is convex( like a flat-bottomed magnifying glass) one side is concave, while the other is convex( like a crescent moon)
Focus Principle One sided refraction, simple and crude double refraction, capable of correcting spherical aberration
Spot quality the edge aberration is significant, and light spot is slightly spread out  the light spot is rounder and the engergy is more concentrated
Installation direction the convex surface must face the incident light the concave surface faces the incident light( otherwise it would become divergent)
Cost  low(easy to manufacture) High( High processing difficulty)
 
Scenario-based selection suggestions
 
Znse flat convex lens ( pcx) preferably cheaper or with a long focal length
Application scenarios: Budget-sensitive, long focal length(>100mm) thick plate cutting, low power(<100w) engraving
Advantage: simple structure, not prone to being installed incorrectly, and low price.
Disadvantage: the edge light spots have slightly poorer quality and are not suitble for extremely precise and detailed processing
 
Znse Meniscus lens for precision or high power
Applicable scenarios: High power cutting(>500w), precise marking, high-speed scanning galvanometer system
Advantages: Minimizes spherical aberration, has extremely high focal energy density, and results in a smoother cutting surface
Disadvantages: the price is high, and it's very prone to being installed incorrectly ( incorrect installation will cause the beam to spread and damge the equipment)
 
Usage Restrctions
Don't install wrongly:Reversing the parabolic lens is a fatal mistak
Remember the rule: the flat convex surface should face the light source, while the curved concave surfaces should face the light source.
