Dielectric coating mirror is an optical component that achieves high reflection by alternative depositing multiple layers of media films with different refractive indices on a substrate. Unlike traditional metal reflectors( such as aluminum mirrors or silver mirrors), it does not reply on the plasma effect of metals, but instead utilizes the principle of light interence.
Mainly principle: optical interference
Basic structure: usually two types of optical materials( one with high refractive index nH and the other with low refractive index nL)are grown alternately, and the optical thickness of each layer is one quarter of the target wavelength.
Phase-matching interference: at the interface, the reflected light from each layer of the film has the same phase at a specific wavelength, and they add together, thereby significantly enhancing the total reflection rate.
Can be design bandwidth:by adjusting and the thickness and number of layer, the central wavelength and bandwith of high reflection can be precisely controlled.
